Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Please join Joyce and I for a morning hike at Sope Creek/Cochran Shoals (Paper Mill parking).  We will start our hike promptly at 8:00 a.m. and hike for approx. 3  hours and cover about 8 1/2 miles. Hike will be at a moderate to fast pace but not considered a super fast fitness hike.  Time and mileage may be slightly over/under.

 

Some trails will be new to me therefore I designated hike as exploratory.  I have never crossed Sope Creek to see what is on the other side so this will be the day to find out.  I have heard that there are more ruins.

 

Meet at the entrance on Paper Mill Road There is a $3 cash fee for a daily parking pass or if you have a CRNRA annual pass even better.  

 

There have been cases of vandalsm to vehicles so leave all valuables at home.

Address 3760 Paper Mill Road, Marietta, GA 30067 (this address is approximate) 

From eastbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • Left For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.2 miles, entrance will be on the left.

From westbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • North For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.2 miles, entrance will be on the left.
