Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join in as we hike the Chunky Gal Trail from Glade Gap ro Perry Gap with a short side trip to the summit of Boteler Peak 5010'.  From US 64 at Glade Gap (3679'), we'll start the trail with a moderately steep but steady uphill hike.  We'll continue uphill for nearly 3 miles until we reach the side trail to the summit of Boteler Peak.  Passing the side trail, we'll continue on the Chunky Gal losing elevation until we reach a gravel road at Perry Gap (3840").  This will be our turn around point.  After a short break, we'll return the way we came.  Climbing back up Boteler Peak.  This time, we'll take the side trail that leads a short distance to the summit for a well deserved break for lunch.  There are great views of the Tusquitee Mountains to the northwest as well as Chatuge Lake to the southwest.  After a break, we'll return down the mountain to our cars.

Discalimer:  I've hiked most of the trail on this trip.  Hiking from Glade Gap to Boteler Peak several times.  I haven't continued on to Perry Gap before though.  This section of trail is well marked and easy to follow and I don't anticipate any problems.  Parts of this trail including the overlook burned last fall during the forest fires.  The effects on the trail were minimal, though.  There shouldn't be any problems hiking the trail due to the fire.

I'll allow up to 2 well behaved dogs on the hike.

On the drive up, we'll make a brief stop at McDonalds in Franklin, NC.
