Let's start this hike on the right foot along the Chattahoochee River. Island Ford Park in Sandy Springs, GA, is the location of the Chattahoochee River National Park Headquarters and Visitor Contact Station. It provides some nice trails, a canoe launch, and picnic areas. We will start at the smaller, first parking lot and get warmed up hiking the 'lolly pop' trail first, which is the newer trail. This trail is about 3 miles long and takes us through the woods. It has some elevation and a few nice bridges. We will end up at the first parking lot and continue our hike on the more established 2+ mile trail along the river. There are two small creeks to hop over, but don't worry, there are plenty of stepping stones. Most of the trail is fairly wide. This is not a beginner hike. We will walk at a moderate pace and only stop at strategic points for water breaks and to regroup. If you are bringing your dog, please make sure you adhere to the laws of the park and your dogs get along with other dogs. We will meet at the first parking lot to your left. Please be on time as we will start the hike promptly at the designated time. If everybody is there early, then we can start ahead of schedule.
