Itinerary: | |||||||
<<< Potential Weather >>> There may be a chance of light rain/shower, but when weather is warm it can be more comfortable and refreshing to go hiking than staying indoors. Bring rain gear if you prefer, even though we’ll be totally sweaty and wet anyway. So bring clean shirt for change is probably even more important for your comfort. <<< Itinerary >>> Come join us for a morning fitness hike at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. We meet and start at the Visitor Center. We’ll go 2 rounds and over the Kennesaw Mountains 4 times for a total of 10 miles. We will start from the Visitor Center and go over Kennesaw Mt., little Kennesaw Mt., and Pigeon Hill to Burnt Hickory Road for 3 miles. We will turn around and retrace the same route to go over the mountains the 2nd time, and get back to the Visitor Center to complete the first round of 6 miles. After a brief restroom break, we’ll start the second round. We'll follow the same route going over the mountains the 3rd time, but only go to the “2-mile” post just pass the little Kennesaw Mt. along the wooden fence on the right hand side. We’ll then turn around going over the mountains the 4th time, and get back to the Visitor Center to complete our hike of 10 miles. This is a go at your own pace event. We all can go at the pace we like to train and enjoy for the moment. In the end we always get the excellent workout and something more. Please arrive a few minutes before our starting time for getting ready and introduction. If you have to park at the overflow parking lot on Old HWY 41, you will need additional 5 more minutes to walk from there to the Visitor Center. <<< 10 Miles/4 Hours: 2.5 MPH Moderate Pace >>> Please only register if you are comfortable with D5 hiking, or trying to move up from D4 to D5. We’ll cover 10 miles in 4 hours with approx. 2,900 feet climbing to achieve a moderate pace of 2.5 MPH. This is an entry level D5. We also use 2.5 MPH as a targeted moderate pace in the remote mountains environment. This Kennesaw Mt. 10 miles/4 hours is a very useful reference. Kennesaw Mt. is in town and nobody can get lost there. If anything happens, there are plenty of help available quickly to our members. Kennesaw Mt. has many early exits, if necessary any participant can bail out early without finishing the entire 10 miles. So the vetting process will not be applied to any registrant. Just understand if you don’t finish 10 miles in 4 hours, you will not earn the D5 credit; your name will be removed from the participant list. Please check in with the trip leader when you’re done in 4 hours. | |||||||
