Itinerary: | |||||
Let’s explore two of the CRNRA units located in Roswell, Allenbrook and Vickery Creek. We will begin our hike by hiking a short distance out the Roswell Boardwalk and visit the ruins of the Ivy Mill which operated in the area starting in the mid 1800’s. Next we will move into the Allenbrook CRNRA unit, an infrequently visited unit which has a rich history and beauty. We will hike past the Allenbrook house itself and the cliffs overlooking Vickery Creek. Also, we will walk along Vickery creek and view the cliffs from their base. Next we will make our way to the Vickery Creek unit where we will be hiking combination of well established trails, some “unofficial” trails and some off-trail. After doing a loop in Vickery Creek, we will finally exit and head back to our cars at the Riverside Park. Our hike will cover about 5.5 miles. Warning: If you are not comfortable with hiking off trail, some of it steep, please do not sign up for this hike. Portions of this hike will be on lightly used and somewhat unmaintained trails. Also there will be some off-trail (bushwhacking) portions required to visit the Ivy Mill ruins and in the Vickery Creek unit. If you are not comfortable with being off well maintained, established trails then this hike may not be for you and definitely not recommended for beginner hikers. Additional Note: Due to the nature of this hike, I cannot take a large group. If a system glitch inadvertently allows more that the maximum number indicated I will move those over the number I am comfortable with taking to the wait list. Just be aware of this in advance and any vacancies will be filled in order of registration. | |||||
