(Monday, December 16): In the morning drive to Pampa Linda, where we will spend the night at Hosteria Pampa Linda. After checking in we drive to nearby Ventisquero Negro, where we will have lunch while watchng the ice fall over half a mile to the bottom of the valley. After lunch we return to the lodge and go on a short hike to a nearby waterfall. Hosteria Pampa Linda (Accomodations at this lodge will be booked directly by the local tour organizer) Day 4. (Tuesday, December 17): We ascend the slopes of Cerro Tronador to Refugio Otto Meiling, where we will spend the night. This refugio is famous for its excellent wine cellar. Hiking time: about 6 hours. Elevation change: a little over 1000 meters. Day 5. (Wednesday, December 18): We cross over to Refugio Agostino Rocca which is in Paso de las Nubes. This involves crossing a glacier (Glaciar Alerce). Ropes, crampons and other equipment will be provided and we will be assisted by mountaineering guides licensed by the National Park. Their number will be proportional to the number of participants and is regulated by the park. There will be no significant elevation change and no particular skill or training is required. Hiking time about 5 hours, of which about 2 hours will be spent on the glacier. Day 6. (Thursday, December 19): We return to Pampa Linda by a different route and return to Bariloche, where we will spend the night. Hiking time: about 5 hours, mostly downhill. Day 7. (Friday, December 20): Today we take a boat and sail a couple of hours on Nahuel Huapi Lake to Puerto Blest (there is no road between Bariloche and Puerto Blest), drop our luggage at the hotel, have lunch, take a short bus ride to Laguna Frias, and after a short boat ride we arrive at Puerto Frias, where we begin today's hike. After walking about a mile on the road to Chile we get to Paso de los Raulies trail. Length: 6 miles, elevation gain: 2000 ft. This trail meanders accross the international boundary and enters Chilean territory a couple of times. There are national parks on both sides of the border and the area is in pristine condition. The trail ends near the hotel in Puerto Blest, where we will spend the night. Hiking time: 5 hours. Day 8. (Saturday, December 21): In the morning hike to Cascada de los Cantaros and back.
