Itinerary: | |||||||
Let’s hike the Homestead trail at Red Top Mountain State Park. This moderate paced hike will cover approximately 5.75 miles in about 2.5 hours. Although the hiking is not difficult, our itinerary will include enough short climbs that beginners should be cautioned. We will meet at the Park Offices located at 50 Lodge Road, Cartersville, GA. The park offices are in the process of being rebuilt after the fire a few years ago but the parking lot is open. As this is a State Park, there is a cost of $5 or use of an annual State Park parking pass. For our hike, we will begin with a short out and back on the White Tail trail which reaches a point with great views of Lake Allatoona. Next we will head toward the Homestead trail and complete the 3 miles loop. While hiking the loop, we will stop briefly at two additional lake views. Utilizing the Homestead and Sweet Gum trails we will return to the Park office parking lot. Red Top Mountain State Park is located on what was once a thriving Iron Ore Mining operation which operated prior to the Civil War. | |||||||
