Want to get in some exercise today but want to stay close to home? Join us for a Saturday morning hike at the East Palisades section of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. We'll start at 9:30 am and finish before noon. East Palisades is one of the most beautiful of all the CNRA units. It offers several miles of trails that connect to a scenic overlook that offers excellent views of the Devil's Race Course Shoals. We will hike around 5 miles including sections along the river as well as several steep, rugged hills. Because of the terrain and the steady pace, this would NOT be a good hike for beginners or for people who can't handle a lot of elevation change. We will leave promptly at 9:30 am and will hike through most of the featured locations including the bamboo forest, the overlook deck, and perhaps the dog beach if time allows. Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to get settled and for introductions. Please remember to bring $5 cash for the National Park Service parking fee. Alternatively, it's a better deal to get an annual pass if you plan to visit any of Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area parks more than 8 times over the next 12 months. Annual pass cost is $40. The following is a link to get annual passes online. https://www.pay.gov/public/search/global?searchString=chattahoochee&formToken=b2545948-89c7-4831-b40e-c78209575925 If you bring your dog, he/she should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. A maximum of 3 dogs will be permitted on this hike on a first to sign up basis.
