EVENT PLAN: Frazier-Rowe is a heavily forested DeKalb County park here in NE metro Atlanta. Dozens of "Friends of the Park" volunteers work hard to continually improve its amazing array of scenic trails and the variety and health of its beautiful trees, shrubs, wildflowers & wildlife. On this easy but adventurous ~4-mile hike we'll explore the park's creekside terrain including the interconnecting trails that wind through its adjoining "Coralwood" nature preserve. We'll also include portions of the pretty residential sidewalks through this quiet "Oak Grove" neighborhood where we're sure to enjoy migrating songbirds and other spring splendor. Gorgeous weather is expected - in the 70s, with sunny skies and no likelihood of rain. As on all AOC events we intend to follow the CDC's COVID Guidelines regarding safe social distancing, etc. WHERE & WHEN? We'll gather a few minutes before 10:00 AM by the shady Frazier-Rowe Park trailhead & bulletin board which adjoins the entrance to "Sprig Restaurant. " It's on a sidewalk at the edge of the woods beside Vista Grove Plaza shopping center. See Directions & GPS Info below, and for a zoomable map or satellite view click the above square blue & green "Event Location" icon. CANINE COMPANIONS are OK. Bring your well-behaved dog if you like, but make sure that he or she is leashed and under your control at all times, and in your registration notes please indicate size, breed, name, etc. MORE ABOUT the PARK: Named for two neighboring families of different ethnicity who lived in harmony there in the mid-20th century, Frazier-Rowe Park is owned by DeKalb County and occupies about 10 acres of forest. Founded in 2013, its trail network and floral gardens, bridges and other structures have been built, planted and maintained by hundreds of hard-working local citizens and Boy Scout troops, etc. Our "Friends of Frazier-Rowe Park" group was awarded a $10,000 "prize grant" for its excellent use of volunteerism - affirming that ordinary people of all ages can make a big difference when working together toward a common goal. Hikers can easily connect to other scenic trails in the same forest that adjoin Coralwood Elementary School. | |||||||
