Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue. This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary. | |||||||
Itinerary: | |||||||
This is going to be a fun packed hiking adventure in the Carolinas. If you are fit and crave an adventure, you will enjoy this trip! IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ ALL SECTIONS OF THIS WRITE-UP BEFORE SIGNING UP. Accommodations:
We have researched several options for accommodation and there are options still available to book. We estimate the cost to stay as a group in a house will be around $80 to $100 per person per night. The trip leaders will get first dibs on rooms and from there will assign beds to members on the list. We will try to do this in order of sign up time, but we may have to allocate rooms/beds by gender mix. Everyone will get their own bed but not necessarily their own room. Bathrooms will most likely have to be shared. Everyone will pay the same amount for the accommodation. Once booked, the money paid for accommodation is non refundable. If there is a waiting list and another member can fill and pay for a cancelled spot, that person can join the trip and the member who dropped the event will then be reimbursed when the newly added member pays. We will use paypal or venmo for these transactions.
Meals: You are responsible for bringing your own food for breakfast and lunch. (Please see the notes for Saturday hike below). For dinner we will eat as a group at a restaurant. We can decide if we want to eat right after hiking before getting to the accommodation or if we have time to shower and change before anyone reaches 'hangry' territory. Majority vote wins.
The Hikes: Saturday- You will arrange to meet with your carpool buddies and drive to the trailhead for our first hike. Be sure to have a cooler packed with your provisions for the trip, in a well insulated cooler your food will remain cool and fresh until we get to our accomodations later in the day. Foothills Trail - Lick Log Falls to Kings Creek Falls (16 miles/2500 feet of gain). This is a fun hike along the Chattoga River on the iconic Foothills trail. We will enjoy river views along almost the entire length of the trail with several opportunities to swim along with a handful of waterfalls to enjoy. This out and back hike will be a lot of fun! We will be stopping along the way to eat lunch. Sunday- Shining Rock, Sam Knob Trek (13 miles/2500 feet of gain). You will need sunscreen and a hat for this awesome hike that summits several mountains and has magnificent 360 views. Prepare to be overwhelmed!
Monday- Grandfather Mountain (13 miles/4000 feet of gain). This hike is a true adventure with ladders and ropes and bridges and FUN! We will be having big views and creeks and scrambles all day on this fun trail.
Tuesday- Linville Gorge (17 miles/4500 feet of gain). Another hike that you will need the sunscreen! Linville Gorge is beautiful and we will have spectacular views all the way on this trek. Our turn around is at Table Rock Mountain, the views here are incredible!
Wednesday- Foothills Trail to Lake Jocassee (16 miles/2500 feet of gain). We will check out of our accomodations and head for South Carolina for the last hike of our trip. This is another awesome hike on the Foothills trail with waterfalls and lake views and overall awesomeness! What a great way to end our adventure.
