Itinerary:

Join me as I explore the northern terminus of the Bartram Trail and beyond to the summit of Cheoah Bald.

This trail offers creek side hiking, vistas, creek crossings and even a short walk on the AT.

We start our adventure in the picnic area for Findley Falls. The picnic area offers paved parking for 6-8 cars as well as a tunnel to explore and the scenic Ledbetter Creek as a backdrop. This trek starts with a nearly 6 mile uphill climb of the Bartram trail with several stopping points for viewing. After we reach the northern terminus of this iconic trail, we will turn right on the AT for the last 1/4 mile of climb to the summit of Cheoah Bald. The bald provides a majestic vista and will serve as our lunch location. After lunch and laughs we retrace our steps back to our cars to complete our out and back adventure. There are about 15 creek crossings on this hike, most of them should be rock-hoppable, but water shoes may be necessary on some.

This hike qualifies as a difficult D5 event with about 3800 feet of gain and a brisk pace. Only accomplished D5 hikers will be permitted to join this adventure.

The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
