The park is the largest park acreage for the City of Atlanta and is dominated by 18 - hole North Fulton golf course which will provide multiple long fairway views as we hike the golf course perimeter.
This trek will have less pavement than the typical Chastain walk. We will do the highest northern dirt bridle trail, the east side of the concrete PATH trail, a dirt trail loop along Nancy Creek, then return on the east side of the concrete PATH trail, take the dirt trail along the ball fields, pickup the lower dirt bridle trail, take it to the loop around the pond, and then head down pool road to return to the parking lot.
Dogs are welcome.
Meeting place
We will meet at the "storm shelter"(a small covered bus stop-like area) at the north end of the Red Parking lot. This location is next to the Amphitheater and in front of the covered horse practice facility so it should be easy for everyone to locate. There is no restroom in the Red lot but there will be a restroom stop 0.5 miles into the hike and restrooms near the end of the hike.
| |||||||
How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | We will meet in the RED parking lot at the corner of Elliott Galloway Way & Powers Ferry Rd NW. The above photo shows the sign at this parking lot entrance. The sign will say Red Lot. Note the Red Lot is the northernmost of the two Horse Park Parking lots. It is up the hill from the one across from Jett Road.
From south of Chastain Park, go north on Roswell Road to W Wieuca Road NW.
Notes: | |||||||
A couple dogs may be allowed as long as they are leashed and well-behaved. Please be prepared to clean up behind your pet to help keep the park nice for everyone.
"Please be advised that attendees of AOC events should have face coverings on their person, in the event they are unable to maintain a physical distance of 6 feet.
