Sweetwater Creek (Orange/Yellow) - Dog Friendly

FULL DISCLOSURE: As of last week, the CDC has relaxed its mask mandate so this will be our first mask-free hike in years! YESSSS! However, depending on your health needs, feel free to wear a mask and/or social distance as necessary.

The plan is to begin the weekend with at least 10,000 steps under our belt, thanks to this dog-friendly, moderately-paced hike on Sweetwater Creek State Park's Yellow and Orange trails. Accordingly, from the Visitor Center, we hike 0.7 mile on the Yellow Trail to the bridge that crosses over Sweetwater Creek. From there, we take the 3.3 mile Orange Trail loop which begins with several hundred feet of elevation gain before leveling off  to mostly flat  terrain with a few rolling hills. Once we complete the orange trail loop we reconnect with the yellow trail for the 0.7 mile return to our cars.

Please Note: Most of the trail is on level terrain, however, there are sections of moderate elevation gain so if you have difficulty going uphill or have a medical condition, this is not the hike for you. 

Yellow/Orange Trail: Approx. 4-mile loop. Blazed orange/yellow. Rated moderately difficult for normal people.  

Use your favorite nav to find Sweetwater Creek State Park and hit Go! Chances are, it will bring you to the main parking lot near the Visitor Center. If it does not, once you get to the Park, follow the signs to the Visitor Center, and then get a new nav! We'll meet near the walkway to the Visitor Center.

Sweetwater Creek State Park hiking trail parking lot near the visitor center: Take I-20 west from Atlanta, exit #44 at Thornton Road, turn left and go 1/4 mile. Turn right on Blairs Bridge Road, go 2 miles and turn left on Mount Vernon Road. Travel a couple more miles and into the park. Just after crossing over the lake turn left onto Factory Shoals Rd. You will see the gate with the small ticket booth. Continue straight to the end of the road to the parking area.

There is no cost to participate in this event, however there is a $5 parking fee to enter the State Park, unless you have a GA Park Pass, in which case you're in!

If Life happens, and you cannot participate in this event, please go to the AOC website and unregister by the registration cut of at 10:00am on the day of the event. If after the deadline, text me at  404-725-4045 and I will do it for you.
