We leave our bags at the hotel and carry a backpack with the day's essentials. We take a 3 mile bus ride to Laguna Frías and cross the lagoon to Puerto Frías by boat (about 45 minutes), where we start our hike by first walking on the paved road that crosses the international boundary between Argentina and Chile. After 0.8 miles we will get to Paso de los Raulíes trail. Length: 6.5 miles, elevation gain: 2000 ft. Hiking time: around five and a half hours. This trail meanders accross the international boundary and enters Chilean territory a couple of times. There are national parks on both sides of the border and the area is in pristine condition. The trail ends near Hotel Puerto Blest, where we will spend the night. Lunch on the trail and dinner in the hotel are included in the event cost. Day 6. (Thursday, December 15): Hike to Lake Ortiz Basualdo (8 miles, D3, hiking time: 5 hours).
