Well this is short notice for a D5 event but your trip leader needs a tough hike tomorrow, so would like to see if anyone else is interested in joining him.

We will start at Unicoi Gap and hike to the summit of Tray Mountain on the Appalachian Trail...then descend the other side for about .2 miles to the Tray mtn shelter to check out the view from there and take a lunch break. Then we will head back up and take a side trail to an rocky overlook where we get superb views to the north and northwest. You can see Rabun Bald in the distance as well as Lake Burton. From there, it is back to Unicoi Gap.

This is out and back hike. Total distance is about 10.6 miles with total ascent about 3600 feet. Pace will be moderate....basically take the climbs at your own pace and we'll stick together on the downhill and flatter portions of the traill.

Hiking boots or shoes
Headlamp ( in case we finish after sunset)
