This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

I have really been enjoying exploring the Pinhoti Trail in Alabama and Georgia. This section of the trail is in the Cohuttas and promises to be awesome! This section will complete my Pinhoti adventure in Georgia... only a few miles left in Alabama!

We will park at the Bear Creek Trailhead and start heading northish. After about a half mile we will ford our first creek of the day. Bear Creek is about 20 feet wide and will require creek shoes to cross. After the creek we will walk about .1 mile and arrive at the Gennett Poplar. This is the biggest tree in Georgia and deserves a big hug. At about the 3 mile mark we will cross 3 creeks in about a quarter mile. We will hike in our creek shoes for a short while until we have forded all 3. Back on go the boots and up the hill we go until we reach the 5 mile mark where we will ford the Crenshaw Branch, at about 20 feet of width this creek will require a change of shoes as well. After the creek we will have a 2 mile ascent to Buddy Cove Gap, the highest elevation point of the Pinhoti Trail. Somewhere along the way we will stop for lunch before retracing our steps back to our cars.

This is a long D5 hike with about 3000 feet of gain, recent D5 experience is required to join the fun. Those without the proper experience should expect an email from the trip leaders for vetting purposes.
