Itinerary:

I've had requests to do Stone Mountain at a reasonable pace, so this is it.  We'll follow the Cherokee Trail, also known as the Stone Mountain Loop, as it circles the mountain for a hike of about 5 miles. We'll meet at the bathrooms near Confederate Hall and hike counter-clockwise around the mountain, starting with a walk through the Nature Center and continuing past the lakes and the Grist Mill.  This hike will not be going up the mountain.

We will meet at the bathrooms near the Confederate Hall. We'll gather at 9:50 am and be finished by 12:30  pm.  Anyone who wants to go up the mountain after we go around is welcomed to do it, but our event will end once we return to the parking area.

If you park in the Stone Mt. lot, the cost for parking is $20 a visit (unless you have a $40 annual pass).  You must pay at the entrance gate.

Required Items to Bring:

Good hiking shoes (the trails are not too steep, but there are some hills and unevenness on the paths).
Water

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

sunscreen
insect repellant

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the walk up trail.

If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive about a mile past a gas station and a funeral parlor on your right. When you get to East Mountain Street, turn left. There is a Marta Park & Ride on Fourth Street. Turn right onto Fourth Street and soon thereafter make a left into the parking area.  From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting. The Marta parking lot is a 1/4 mile walk from the bath house.
