Itinerary:

Let's get a good hike in this weekend.

I'm starting this one early because the Woody Gap parking area usually fills up fast. Contrary to the map below I think it would be a good idea to head North first and do the harder more strenuous climbing as well as visit the popular Preacher's Rock early, then turn back to the parking lot at Woody Gap. We'll take a quick break at the parking lot for bathrooms and a resupply of water or whatever, and then head South on the new to me section of the Appalachian Trail 3 1/2 miles to Gooch Gap. Once there we'll again turn it around and retrace our steps back to the cars. This should put us in at just about 10 total miles with according to Alltrails a 1936 feet of elevation gain. I've got the timing set for a moderate pace of 2.5 MPH.

Please be confident that you can complete this hike in the time allotted before signing on. I'll be reviewing your hiking history and anyone without comparable hikes recently will be contacted & possibly moved to the wait list.

Parking is free at the trail head.
