Itinerary:

It's been a long time since I did the Coosa Backcountry Loop, join me as we attack a high end D5 at Vogel State Park.

We will start at the Vogel State Park Visitors Center where flush toilets provide a luxury beginning to our trek. The first 3.5 miles of this hike are easy and beautiful, then we cross West Wolf Creek Road... We gain 2000 feet of elevation in 3 miles as we reach the (almost) summit of Coosa... a long slog. This is where we will stop for lunch and laughs. Once lunch is over, 1.5 miles of downhill is our reward, then we cross Wolf Pen Gap Road... the climb of Slaughter Mountain is less than a mile, but it is a steep climb. After we catch or breath by the big rock, we do a 3.5 mile descent past beautiful creeks as we rejoice that no more uphill is coming our way.

This is a difficult D5 hike with over 3600 feet of gain, only experienced hikers should sign up!

We will be joined by my furry friend Buck. If a little doggy attention is not your thing, this is probably not the right event for you.
