Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Join me for a hike around Stone Mountain on the Cherokee Trail with a side trip to the Songbird Trail. This is marked as exploratory because I have not mapped the entire route, although I have hiked this before. The Songbird Trail is a very nice addition to the Cherokee Trail.

We will meet at the base of the walk-up trail, near the restrooms behind the Historical & Environmental Education Center (formerly called Confederate Hall). We will take the Cherokee Trail around the mountain, diverting onto the Songbird Trail on the south side of the mountain. We will go at a moderate pace around 2.6 to 2.8 mph, and will allow time to take photos. The time estimate above is longer than our likely total time, but I'm allowing for unexpectedly long photo stops, which we may not use.

Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome. The park's leash requirement must be observed.

While the event itself has no cost, if you don't have a park pass you will need to pay $20 for a park pass ($40 for an annual pass) or park at the lot in Stone Mountain village and walk into the park. If you park in the village, allow about 15 minutes to walk to our meeting spot.

Please arrive 10 minutes early for introductions so we can start on time.
