Central Rock Gym (CRG) is one of the nation's largest indoor climbing gyms.Whether you are a beginner or a world CRG.K has walls extending 25 feet to 60 feet high to challenge both your strength and mind, and a bouldering room that will not bore even the most fanatical gym rats. New routes go up on a weekly basis. In addition to climbing, yoga, and spin classes, CRG also has a fitness center, consisting of cardio equipment, circuit training, and free weights. Whether you want a good cardio exercise or to be the next Arnold, they have all the top-of-the-line equipment to get you there. After you arrive at CRG, fill out waivers (if new to events), pay at the front desk first. Get the equipment if you don't have it and walk to the tables near restrooms/lockers (left side of the gym area). That is where you'll find the trip leader and check in and do intros (this event has a passive start up time, so come and go as you needed) I'd like to have everyone there at the start, but feel free to meandor around. Try new stuff! Also be aware that climbing is a partner concept (get a friend to join you). One person belays, the other climbs. And then they switch. If someone is new to climbing, not being able to return the favor of belaying is fine. But the faster you become belay certified (enquire at front desk), the better it is for everyone. It's a free certification at this gym if you know your stuff..or they offer classes for a price. All pretty easy to do, and it helps out someone else who wants to climb while you're resting from the climb you just did. Trust me, climbing is much more fun when you belay. For the record CRG does have Auto-Belaying routes, denoted by the yellow flags holding the carabiner...just waiting for you to try...and some of those auto-belay routes are 5.11's too! Note that it is not the Trip Leader responsibility to teach you how to climb. However, the Trip Leader and other experienced AOC climbers are most likely going to be there and willing to give advice and get you started on the right path. We'll also encourage you to take classes on climbing techniques, other types of climbing and rappelling....so look out for future events! I have a lot of ideas brimming and I need to act on them ASAP! The routes you choose can be as easy or as hard as you want. You don't need to feel intimidated. Every advanced climber was a beginner at some point in their lives. If you get tired, you can stop to rest, sit around, grab a giant beanbag and watch other climbers, or just socialize. The most important thing in rock climbing is not to conquer every route in the gym, but to have fun while you are climbing (oh, and be safe!).
