Itinerary:

This is a great loop hike following both the AT and BMT from their southern terminus on Springer Mtn. It's a low-end D5 hike of  about 13 miles distance and 2500 feet elevation gain. There are great views from Springer Mtn and Owen's Overlook along with lunch at Long Creek Falls with lots of beautiful forest to hike through.

From the trailhead parking lot we'll start up Springer Mtn on the AT. After enjoying the view at the top we'll head south on the BMT stopping shortly at Owen's Overlook.  We'll continue on the BMT to Long Creek Falls for lunch crossing the AT a couple times along the way.  Then we hike back to the Springer parking lot southbound on AT.

There should be plenty of parking at the Springer Mtn trailhead. The unpaved roads leading to the trailhead are long and bumpy but shouldn't be a problem for most cars.

This is a strenuous hike and recent D4/D5 experience is required. You should be comfortable hiking 5 hours with few breaks at a pace of 2.8 - 3.0+ mph. Expect an email from me to assess your compatibility if you are new or haven't done prior AOC D4/D5 hike events.
