Itinerary:

Come join me for KMNBP's 160th Battle Anniversary Scavenger Hunt. From now until September 2 if you go to these 11 locations and take either a selfie or the above form with the location in the background with time and date you receive a patch.

I will provide copies of the form when we meet.

All distances are round trip from the parking lot

Meet at 8:30 at the Park Visitor Center for introductions

Hike to number 9, the distance is about 2 miles.

Drive to parking lot on top of Kennesaw Mountain

Hike to number 6, the distance is about 2 miles.

Hike to number 11, the distance is about 0.1 miles.

Drive to Gilbert Road parking lot.

Hike to number 1, the distance is about 1 mile.

Dive to Pigeon Hill parking lot.

Hike to number 5, the distance is about 0.8 miles

Hike to number 2, the distance is about 1.4 miles.

Hike to number 4, the distance is about 1 mile.

Drive to Illinois Monument parking lot.

Have lunch. There is a restroom at this location.

Hike to number 7, the distance is about 1 mile.

Hike to numbers 8 and 10, the distance is about 0.3 miles.

Drive to Visitor Center parking lot.

Hike to number 3, the distance is about 0.4 miles.

Go to the Visitor Center to show paperwork and get certificate.

Finish at 2:30.

Total distance is about 11 miles. The total time is estimated at 6 hours.

If we were to hike this starting at the Visitor Center, the total distance would be about 18 miles.

This is a D3 event. Some of these distances I know accurately some I have not hiked this way; thus, I am estimating that is why this is an exploratory event.

Lunch may change depending on whether we are ahead or behind schedule. Driving times will depend on traffic and is the unknown.

This also assumes that that we can drive to the top of the mountain. That is why I chose a Tuesday. You can only drive up the mountain from Monday to Friday. The road is closed on Saturday and Sunday. If the road is closed, I need to add 2 more miles to the distance.

Please do not sign up if you do not plan to do the entire event.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

From Marietta:

 1) I-75 North to exit 267B Hwy 5 Canton Road Connector

2) If you are not heading west after getting off of the Interstate you are going the wrong way.  You should be heading towards US 41 and downtown Marietta after getting off of I-75 onto the Canton Road Connector and see Kennesaw Mountain on your right.

3) You will be tempted to take the first exit off of the Canton Road Connector which is US 41, but do not take it.  Proceed over US 41 on a bridge staying on the Canton Road Connector.

4) After crossing US 41 take a right at the first redlight which is Church Street Extension.

5) You should cross railroad tracks soon.

6) Take a left onto Old 41 at the second redlight.  If you get to US 41 again, you have missed the turn onto Old 41 so turn around.

7) Stay on Old US 41 until you pass in front of the mountain then turn left at the redlight and park in the main visitor center lot if you can.  If full head back out to Old 41, take a left and park in the overflow parking lot farther down the road on the left.

PARKING PASSES:  Each driver is responsible for paying the $5 per vehicle per day self-service National Park parking fee (or displaying instead from your rear-view mirror a valid National Park Annual Pass - available for sale at the park Visitor Center).
