Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

The elevation gain, pace, and distance give this hike a difficulty rating of D5. You'll need recent AOC D4/D5 experience to participate.

Please join us for a scenic hike at Amicalola Falls combining a climb up the 602 stairs next to the falls with a loop hike to the Len Foote Inn (aka Hike Inn). With luck the weather will have begun to cool off, and we'll have a comfortable hike.

Estimated elevation gain is about 2,850 feet, and the distance about 11.5 miles. We'll hike at a moderate pace as a group with brief water breaks along the way, along with a 20-30 minute lunch break at the inn. If you do not have recent D5, or high D4, experience with the club, please either don't sign up or email the trip leaders explaining what experience you have that shows you will have a good experience on this hike.

We'll start at the parking lot across from the visitor center.

NOTE: The estimated duration of the hike is a best guess. Please be flexible on time.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $56.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

There is a $5 per vehicle entrance fee at Amicalola Falls State Park without a valid Georgia state park pass. This fee should be split among the people in each car.

*Note:

We'll likely reschedule the hike if there's a high probability of rain. Please check your AOC email and/or the website before leaving the morning of the hike.
