Itinerary: | |||||||
We'll start out from the Nature Center on the Yellow Trail, cross the creek and turn off on the rolling Blue Loop, then head up the hill on the Orange Trail, including the ridgeline and out to Rushing Water Corner. We will finish up coming down the Yellow Trail. If the group has extra gas after we return over the bridge, we can head down to the ruins and take the White Trail back to the Center. This will be a low-D3 hike in distance and with about 850' in climbing. Our pace will be moderate, 2.25-2.5 mph, with pauses and Nature gazing. We will shoot to complete in 3 hours or less. Map, terrain and vegetation reading will be encouraged, and instructed for those interested along the trail. | |||||||

How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | Take I-20 west to exit 41 (Lee Road). Make a left on Lee (south) and go 1 mile. Turn Left at Cedar Terrace Rd, and go 0.8 mile, then turn right onto Mt Vernon Rd. Go 0.3 mile, across the Lake and turn LEFT into Sweetwater State Park on Factory Shoals Road. There is a $5 Entrance fee unless you have an annual pass.
Drive about half a mile to the parking lot just before the visitor's center. The lot may be full, so you may need to park on the pavillion loop. Give yourself time to walk to the Nature Center from parking ~1/3 mile away.
