Itinerary:

Yonah Mountain (commonly referred to as "Mount Yonah" or, by older Georgians, "Yonah Bald") is located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in the north of Georgia in the United States, between the towns of Cleveland and Helen. Yonah is the Cherokee word for Bear.[2]

There is a signed trailhead from Chambers Road and an approximately 2.3 mile trail (gaining 1500 feet in elevation) leads to the summit. There are also side trails that lead to neighboring Pink Mountain.  We'll go to Pink Mountain as well.  This side trail does require some bushwhacking - though generally it is not difficult and in the winter time it is straightforward.

Lunch on top of Yonah - enjoying the vistas :)  - if it isn't toooo cold.

The 5th Ranger Training Battalion, Ranger Training Brigade of the United States Army conducts the Mountain Phase of Ranger School on Yonah Mountain. It has been a popular training ground for rock climbers.

We will not be doing any rock climbing on this hike.

Carpool departure (please arrive a few minutes early): 9:30 AM

Hike departure:  10:45 AM

Hike ends: 3:15PM

Carpool return:  depends on our stops along the way

There is a pit restroom at the trailhead.

In order to participate, you must have at minimum a hiking D3 from 2024 that involved elevation gain.  If you do not have AOC hiking history, please email the trip leader with the following:  date, duration, distance, elevation gain of your last hike - if I don't receive the email, you will not be allowed to participate.  Thanks for your understanding.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $48.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

- The last half mile of the drive to the trailhead is on a well maintained gravel road.  I haven't been out here in a while - there were no reports on alltrails about the road condition.
