Itinerary:

Join the AOC and start 2025 on a healthy note!

Come check out Sandy Spring's newest trail called "Springway." A new and scenic section of it along Orkin Lake is almost complete and ready to be open to the public. We'll get a sneak peak of the impressive boardwalk around the lake. We'll also hike around nearby Big Trees Forest Preserve.

This will be a moderate pace hike of about 2.5 mph. Total elevation gain on this event is 557 feet. This hike is a combination of paved trails and natural trails. Our hiking path has some hills and flat surfaces.

At one point in our hike, we'll carefully cross over Roswell Road, which can sometimes be congested with traffic.

A bit of history: John Ripley Forbes helped protect Big Trees Forest Preserve from being demolished. He helped lead a major effort over 30 years ago to protect the area from turning into commercial real estate. Thanks John!

After the hike, there is an option to meet for coffee/food at Dunkin Donuts, located at 8290 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs (near the park).

We'll start our hike at Big Trees Forest Preserve at 7645 Roswell Road NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30350. Parking is free!
