F.D. Roosevelt State Park, Georgia’s largest state park, is a hiker’s and backpacker’s haven located on Pine Mountain. The long, narrow ridge, composed of quartzite rock formations, is the southernmost mountain in Georgia.

We will hike the entire 23-mile Pine Mountain Trail. With clear winter views, quiet woods, sparkling streams, misty waterfalls, rock outcroppings, varied forest, scenic overlooks.

This will be a fast paced event, you must have completed a recent D5 or higher and be physically and mentally fit to complete this event. Your trip leaders will use their discretion in ascertaining your ability to join this event.

We have done this hike 3 times with a timeline of 9 hrs and pace of 2.8mph. Sunset is at 6:05pm, so we have plenty of time to finish this hike.

Because of the car key exchange we are limiting the attendees to eight.

This event involves a car key exchange. Some hikers will start at one end and the remainder at the other end. This will reduce the amount of time with no car shuttles. One trip leader will be with each group. You must meet at the carpool.

The trip leaders will determine the participants for each group.

We will stop for dinner at Old Chicago Pizza (next to NCG Cinema) for dinner and celebration. All are invited to attend this optional part of the event.

Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $36.80 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
