Itinerary:

Join me for this challenging D6 hike on the Appalachian Trail. We'll follow the AT on an out and back route from the Dicks Creek Gap trailhead to Bly Gap just past the Georgia/North Carolina state line.

While there are no big extended climbs on this section there's plenty of shorter climbs that will total around 4600 feet elevation gain covering 6 knobs in each direction. It's a beautiful hike through the mountains and a tough workout.

Climbs include Little Bald Knob, Buzzard Knob, As Knob, and Rich Knob. You'll cross the state line for lunch and a photo op by the gnarly tree at Bly Gap. You'll also learn the meaning of PUDS.

Although we'll be on the AT the whole time, this is a solid D6 hike of 18 miles with 4600 feet. The average pace should be a quick 2.8 mph. Be sure you're comfortable with hikes lasting up to 7 hours including faster pace sections of 3.0+ mph. Recent D6 experience is needed to join the fun. Expect an email from the trip leader to assess your compatibility if you don't have any D6 hikes in your AOC profile over the past few months.
