Itinerary:

Join the AOC for a hike at the Chattahochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) - Cochran Shoals Unit. The Cochran Shoals unit is one of the most used and popular CRNRA units. There are two trailheads at Cochran Shoals. We are meeting at the Interstate North trailhead. This trailhead offers a larger parking lot than Columns Drive.

We'll meet at the parking kiosk near the bathrooms. Please arrive early enough to use the restroom, pay for parking as needed, and introductions to your fellow hikers.

Our hike will start on the well worn but maintained river loop. We'll make our way to the other side of the park using the interior trails which will have us managing rocks, roots, mud, and marshy areas. Cochran Shoals has multi- purpose trails that are shared by hikers and bikers. We will be hiking on some of these shared trails careful to ensure that if we see bikers they will be ahead of us. Our hike will also lead us to a local family's burial plot. We will take a break at Columns Drive trailhead then make our way back to our cars following the river loop.

Total distance is ~ 5.5 miles. Elevation change < 500 ft. Pace is moderate ~ 20 min/mile
