Westside Park + Grove Park and Proctor Creek Greenway

Greetings hikers! You are invited to join us for an urban hike on Atlanta's westside.

 

We'll start our event at Westside Park (also known as Shirley Clarke Franklin Park). It is one of the largest parks in Atlanta. It is home to the former Bellwood Quarry, located between Bankhead and West Midtown, and is located in a very trendy urban area of the city.  The directors of “The Walking Dead,” “The Hunger Games” and “Stranger Things" shot some of their scenes at the quarry.

 

Westside offers a large water reservoir and an overlook spot with scenic views of the city skyline. (You may want to snap a photo or two!) The park was thoughtfully designed and is a pleasure to walk through at any time of the year.

 

During our hike, we'll explore many areas of the park, then head south along the Proctor Creek Greenway and through Grove Park. These areas are adjacent to the park.

 

During our time in Grove Park, we'll stop at Bankhead Seafood (to the rooftop deck area) and grab a beverage and relax and spend a short time socializing. 

 

Important note: There are bathrooms at the restaurant and at the entrance to the park.

 

After we leave Bankhead Seafood, we'll make our way back to the starting point of our hike.

 

Parking at Westside Park is free.

 

1600 Johnson Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 - Make sure you have NW in the address, not NE.

There are two entrances to Westside Park on Johnson Road. Make sure you use the above address and come in Entrance 2 where you drive under the awesome dinosaur ribcage sculpture. If you don’t drive under that, you are at the wrong parking lot.

Directions from I-75:

Take exit 252 onto Howell Mill Road.

Go west on Howell Mill Rd NW for 0.5 miles, then turn right onto Chattahoochee Ave NW.

After 0.6 miles, turn left onto Ellsworth Industrial Blvd NW.

After 0.5 miles, take a slight right turn onto Elaine Ave NW.

After 0.2 miles, turn left onto Marietta Blvd NW, and then in 0.3 miles, turn right onto W Marietta St NW.

After 0.5 miles, turn left onto Johnson Rd NW. 

Westside Park Entrance 2 will be on your left in about 0.4 miles.

 

We will meet near the bathrooms under the large phoenix sculpture.
