Itinerary:

Typically, when we go to Vogel State Park, we hike the Coosa Backcountry Loop with Blood Mountain added in. For a change of pace and scenery, we will hike between two of Georgia's State Parks featuring lakes in the North Georgia Mountains. Along the way, we will visit 2 Appalachian Trail Shelters. First is Blood Mountain, next a spur trail to Woods Hole Shelter. Blood Mountain Shelter is built of stone and once had a working fireplace. It is dank and damp and not very appealing for a stay except in the rain. Woods Hole Shelter is on a spur trail well off the AT, so it seldom gets visited by day hikers. I'll share my story of the origins of Woods Hole Shelter. We will do a lollipop-type route with the loop including Lake Winfield Scott via Jarrad Gap and Slaughter Creek Trail.

This hike has an estimated 3668 vertical feet of ascent and is about 15 miles long.
