OVERVIEW: The weather is shaping up nicely for this Friday with sunny skies and the mid-60s expected around midday—so how about a nice lunchtime hike?! Hahn Woods and its adjoining Lullwater Park are prized by hikers and joggers as "crown jewels" of Emory University's extended campus in NE Atlanta. The 185-acre forested nature preserve boasts an extensive trail system that takes visitors from the Hahn Woods parking lot along the banks of the South Fork of Peachtree Creek with its old mill ruins & waterfalls, then over the creek via a nice new 210-foot-long suspension footbridge, past the Emory president's palatial "Lullwater Estate," around beautiful Candler Lake, and back.
WHEN & WHERE? We’ll gather at 12:00 Noon in the Hahn Woods free parking lot at 866 Houston Mill Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30329—see detailed Directions below. HIKING & CREEKSIDE PICNIC PLAN: Bring two or three simple food & drink items for the "picnic," perhaps in a small cooler or light daypack. At about 12:15, After introducing ourselves and signing our AOC waiver form) we’ll head down to a scenic spot by the creek near our vehicles to enjoy our picnic lunches and drinks. After lunch we'll stop briefly back at the cars, then take a moderate hiking pace on the creekside trails, with occasional pauses and photo-ops at scenic spots along the way—about 3 miles total. We expect to be back at our vehicles by about 2:00 PM.
