Itinerary: | |||||||
Join Ralph and I for a roundabout hike up Stone Mountain. We'll meet at the bathrooms near the Confederate Hall and then take the nature trail around to the Cherokee trail climbing up the mountain. We'll then go to the top come back down, continue on the Cherokee trail and pick up the orange trail back to the Confederate Hall. Pace will be slow to moderate, let's say around 3 mph. The total distance of the hike is probably 3.5 miles and should take us about 2 hours. Meet at 9:20 AM to sign in - the hike starts at 9:30 sharp. | |||||||

How to Get There: | |||||||
Event Directions: | Directions: To the main entrance- From I-285 take U.S. Hwy 78 East (Snellville/Athens) exit. Travel about 7 miles and take Exit 8, the Stone Mountain Park Main Entrance. After entering the main entrance, proceed straight ahead. The road will fork at about 1 mile – stay to the right. Continue to follow the road for another mile. Confederate Hall will be on your left. The parking lot will be immediately after. We’ll meet behind Confederate Hall near the restrooms. If you would like to try the free public parking in Stone Mountain Village, from Hwy 78 take exit 5 and merge onto GA 10. Proceed 0.5 miles to the first exit. At the end of the ramp turn left. Drive a mile or so, past a gas station and a funeral parlor (both on your right). When you see City Hall turn left. There is a Marta park and ride on fourth street. From there it is a short walk on East Mountain Street. Enter the park through the gate and you'll be at the parking lot where we'll be meeting.
