| This section of the Big Creek Greenway is a lot of fun...it is mostly flat with less than 100 feet of total elevation change along the entire route (175' of total ascent/descent for an out and back ride). There are numerous boardwalk portions, but they are well constructed, so should be just fine for road bikes as well as hybrids, mountain bikes, recumbants, unicycles, etc. While this is a group ride in principle and in spirit, we won't insist on everyone staying in a tight group. People usually split up into smaller groups of similar speed. The trail is wide enough to ride beside someone and carry on a conversation. But there should be ample time to hang out and socialize both before and after the ride (as well as during to some degree). We will start at the southern trailhead off of McFarland Road...this parking can fill up easily though, so if you can't find a place to park there, you can always drive to nearby Fowler Park (directions below) and just meet the rest of the group on the trail. The trail is 6.8 miles, so out and back is 13.6 miles...should take between an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how fast you ride. You really don't even have to ride the entire length and could turn around before the end if you really wanted to. Sunset is at 8:41 PM, so we should have plenty of time to finish up before dark. **PLEASE NOTE** You are responsible for your bike maintenance and/or repairs on the trail. Other AOCers will be willing to provide what help they can, but ultimately individual riders are responsible for their own repairs. Please be aware that the group can not delay or alter the trip for a repair. Make sure you complete a pre-maintenance check a day or two prior to the event. | |||||

This event is weather dependent because if it rains, some of those boardwalks get very slippery and dangerous. So check the AOC website before you leave (and email) to see if the ride is still on. * We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events. | |||||
