Itinerary:

Let's go biking !!  Come join us for a 30 mile bike ride and picnic on the Silver Comet.

We'll begin our day at the Rambo Trailhead (mile marker 22.2) near Dallas and ride into Rockmart (mile marker 37.6) where we'll have a picnic lunch at Seaborn Jones Memorial Park.

The Silver Comet trail is very scenic. We'll pass things like the Pumpkinvine Trestle, which is 750 feet long and 126 feet high, ride through beautiful pine tree forests, open pastures, the Brushy Mountain Tunnel and pass by Coot's Lake.

Our lunch spot is a city park, which sits in the middle of downtown Rockmart along the banks of the Euharlee Creek.  It's a really pretty park frequented by bicylcers, locals and visitors who want to relax under the shady oaks and who might want to take a refreshing wade through its cooling water.  There are restrooms at the park.

After lunch, we'll ride back to the Rambo trailhead on the same route.

Helmet is REQUIRED! - Absolutely no exceptions.

We'll keep a moderate pace with a minimum of 10-12 mph.

Here's a map of the Silver Comet if you are interested.

Please note: This is not a beginner trip because of mileage. 30 miles is a bit more challenging if you are not used to riding at least 10- 15 miles on a normal bike ride.

Biking Etiquette:
The Silver Comet Trail is a paved multi-use path, which we'll be sharing with runners, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, strollers, dogs, and lots of squirrels. Yes, squirrels and lots of them. lol :)

Here's some things to keep in mind while you are biking:

- Be considerent of others on the trail.

- Be aware of your surroungings at all times.

- Stay on your side of the trail unless you are planning to pass someone that is coming up on your right.

- Don't assume someone knows you are coming up behind them to pass. When you pass someone on the right, you should always give a simple shout "on your left". People are very appreciative of this and will normally say "thank ya", give a wave or even just a quick nod.

 - Don't ride in the middle of the trail, especially if you see bicyclists, walkers, runners, joggers, etc. coming toward you. If you are in conversation then slowly back off and fall behind so people coming toward you aren't forced to yell nasty things.  Believe me, it happens and unfortunately it is happening too often on our group bike rides, which is the reason to remind folks of basic biking etiquette.
