This is the second Water hike of the day. Do both hikes (Sweetwater Creek and Boundary Waters) or just one of them. Whatever works for you. The Boundary Waters Park is a 500-acre facility, with 200 acres devoted to passive recreation, including multi-use equestrian, hiking, running, and biking trails, picnic, and playground areas. There are three marked trails: Red Oak Loop (yellow blazes) - 2.4 miles (easy to moderate) Red Hawk Loop (blue blazes) - 1.1 miles (easy to moderate) Chattahoochee Loop (red blazes) - 5.1 miles (easy to difficult) We'll be taking the Chattahoochee Loop (red trail). This is a beautiful trail, wide and excellent for hiking. No rocks or roots of any kind to speak of, with some beautiful vistas of the Chattahoochee River. The trail is wide, making it great for conversation along the way. Horses frequent the trail, leaving lots of evidence of their presence - - and not merely hoof prints! The beginning of the hike is easy, with very little elevation change; after this nice warm-up, the hills become more steep, with a few heart pumpers to manage. Though the upper trail is labeled "difficult," it's not anything too challenging for a D3 hiker. We'll start the hike on the Red Hawk Loop and then switch to the Chattahoochee Loop when it intersects, so that the total distance will be around 6 miles. We'll occasionally pause along the way if anyone needs a rest; otherwise, we'll keep a good pace. Up to 3 dogs will be allowed on this hike, but they must be kept on a leash. The penalty for dogs off leash is a court appearance and fine. With horses on the trail, dogs can be a danger to the riders. So please be willing to cooperate if you bring your dog. | |||||||
