Itinerary:
Moderate

We will walk the Laurel Ridge Trail in the counterclockwise direction, with a side trip to the bottom of the dam and a pedestrian bridge over the Chattahoochee, for a total distance of a little over 4 miles. This trail has plenty of shade and offers nice views of the dam, the river, and Lake Lanier, so you may want to bring your camera. Optional: after the hike we will drive one mile to West Bank Park and enjoy the beach and a picnic lunch.

NOTE: There is no lifeguard on duty, so swim at own risk.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Picnic lunch. Carry at least one quart of water with you on the hike. The trail is wide, so shorts are ok. Bring good walking shoes, sunblock for the beach and bug spray for the hike (although bugs are really not much of a problem).

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Buford, GA 9:00 am at the Lower Overlook parking lot. From the Park and Ride go north on I 85, and take the I 985 exit. Continue a little under 4 miles on I 985 until Exit 4. At the top of the ramp take a left onto SR 20. Proceed about 5.5 miles on SR 20 and take a right onto Suwanee Dam Road, which dead ends after 2.2 miles when it reaches Buford Dam Road. Take a left onto Buford Dam Road, and proceed 1 mile. The Lower Overlook parking will be on your right. If you reach Buford Dam you went too far.

NOTE: Please be considerate of others. If you sign-up and cannot attend, please e-mail the event leader, so others that may be on a waiting list may attend. E-mail the event leader to be put on a waiting list if the trip is at the max number of attendees.

Cost Includes:Share gas costs with driver (50 mile round trip). Parking is free. Admittance to West Bank Park is $4.00 per car.
