Itinerary:

This is going to be an enjoyable, moderately paced hike.  The area is hilly, so it's not a great hike for beginners - - but it won't be overly strenuous.  If you've done a bit of hiking, you should be fine.  We can stop for rest/water/photos along the way.

Sope Creek is a more secluded entrance to the Cochran Shoals area of the Chattahoochee NRA. We will hike about 5 miles of trails through the woods, possibly swinging by the ruins if there are folks new to the area. 

Please remember to bring $3 cash for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

We will start the event on time!  Arrive a few minutes early to check in!

Dogs are allowed, but they should be kept on leash.  

Warning:  Poison ivy is common on the sides of the trail.

From eastbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • Left For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.2 miles, entrance will be on the left.

From westbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • North For 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left for 2.7 miles to the junction of Johnson Ferry Road and Paper Mill Road.
  • Left onto Paper Mill Road for 2.2 miles, entrance will be on the left.

From northbound Interstate 75

  • Take exit 260, Windy Hill Road.
  • Right to Powers Ferry Road.
  • Left for .9 miles to Terrell Mill Road
  • Right on Terrell Mill Road for 1.6 miles to ‘right’ turning lane for Paper Mill Road.
  • Unit will be on right 1.1 miles down the road.

From southbound Interstate 75

  • Take exit 260, Windy Hill Road.
  • Left to Powers Ferry Road.
  • Left for .9 miles to Terrell Mill Road
  • Right on Terrell Mill Road for 1.6 miles to ‘right’ turning lane for Paper Mill Road.
  • Unit will be on right 1.1 miles down the road.
