Itinerary: |
How about a nice sunset hike on a beautiful evening to stretch the legs, get some exercise, and then relax and watch the sun go down.
We will be beginning the hike at the Confederate Center (near the restrooms). We will hike about half of the nature trail, hop on the Cherokee Trail, then cut off for a slightly different approach up the mountain which will keep us off the walk-up trail and provide some different views. There are two potential routes depending on how many are in the group, but either one will keep us off the walkup trail most of the way. At the top of the mountain, we will hang out for awhile, take pics, and enjoy the scenic view of the sunset from the top. The sun will be setting at 7:16PM right over Mid-town Atlanta. We will be walking down a trail through the woods and the moon will not be in the sky, so it's highly recommended that you bring a small LED flashlight or headlamp to avoid tripping.
This hike will be about 3.5 miles (about 1.5 miles longer than the walkup trail), will involve steeper sections, and since it's not on the walkup trail you are expected to maintain the quick-side-of-moderate pace with the TL... which is why it is rated a D3.
HIKE WILL START FROM CONFEDERATE HALL PARKING LOT AT 6:06 PM. PLEASE BE THERE 6 MINUTES EARLY FOR SIGN UP AND INTRODUCTION.
Free parking is avaialable at MARTA PARK n RIDE parking lot. It is less than a half mile walk to the park and the entrance is near our meeting area.
Please take the time to look at the park map and parking options in order to be on time!
