Itinerary:

Hey - it's Monday - let's celebrate!  Skip the gym and come and enjoy a "OGIM!" (Oh Gosh It's Monday!) hike at Jones Bridge Park!  Monday the high looks to be in the mid 60's.  This is rated a D2.  We won't be moving too fast, but we'll keep a steady pace.

The parking lot where we meet is at the very end of the entrance road.  Restrooms are available here.  Please remove all valuables visible in your vehicles because there have been acts of vandalism.

The trail we will follow starts at the south end of the parking area.  We will cross a bridge then pass through the boat launch area and shortly thereafter leave the Chattachoochee's rich riparian zone (see Notes below) and begin a moderate climb away from the river and into the Chattahoochee watershed.  A 2006 park improvement project added steps up to a switchback and walls to the switchback itself to reduce runoff from the area.

After dropping to a gravel road we'll continue to climb to a low, unnamed ridge. Here, a few massive American beech trees have spread, almost completely taking over the forest on the ridge.  The trail descends into another flood plain crisscrossed with trails.  (A remapping project, part of the 2006 park improvement project, put wooden map stations at each one of the trail intersections, allowing one to create his or her own trail.)

Alternatively, there is an upper trail, which we'll take.  It's the one furthest from the river and on a ridge which increases the workout.

We will continue along this path heading towards a pond.  There will be a brief stop in the open area just past the pond.  From here we will head back into the woods, loop left, and follow the river back.

In general, the trails are flat with some relatively easy uphill climbs, nothing with over a 100 foot elevation gain.  There's a good chance we'll see some deer along the way so cameras are encouraged.

Dogs are welcome.  Please bring a leash.

Please bring water and $3 for the parking or an annual pass.
