Itinerary: | |||||||
Let's greet the week with a moderately fast hike at one of my favorite CNRA units. We'll cover 5-6 miles as we hike up to the Lollipop Trail, hike that trail, and return to the Visitor's Center via the river. We'll start the hike at the Visitor's Center this time. Once you drive into the unit, keep driving down the main road for about 1/2 mile until you reach the main parking lot. For those who haven't been to Island Ford, you'll pass two parking lots on your left before finally reaching the lot where we will meet. Keep driving until the road ends! The Visitor's Center closes at 5 pm, so there will not be any bathroom facilities available. (Trees are always an option.) We will start the hike promptly at 6:30! Allow extra time for traffic, purchasing a $3 pass, and for meeting everyone before we take off. This is NOT a beginner's hike. We'll be going at a pretty fast clip without any breaks through some hilly terrain. Please don't sign up for this one if you have any doubts about being able to stay with the group. If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. Please be reminded that this area requires a $3 (cash) parking pass if you don't already own an annual pass. No change is available. We will start the hike promptly at 6:30 pm! Arrive 5 minutes early to purchase a pass and and to check in.

Trail Map - http://www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/upload/2006IslandFordB&W.pdf Please be aware that if you park and no one is there from the AOC, it's likely because you're at the wrong lot! The Visitor's Center lot is the one with the big building. No building = wrong lot! :-) * We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.
Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review the AOC cancellation policy. *Note: You can cancel your registration yourself up to 4:30 pm before the hike. After that, please call or text me to cancel. 404-788-4089 |
