Join me for a Sunday morning hike at East Palisades section of Chattahooche River National Recreation Area. The weather should be completely bright and sunny. Hopefully, we'll also get to experience partially ripe fall foliage during this event. This event will take place as scheduled. So, come ready for rain or shine. NOTE: WE SWITCH CLOCKS BACK AN HOUR ON SUNDAY. TRY TO NOT SHOW UP AN HOUR TOO EARLY FOR THIS EVENT. East Palisades is one of the most beautiful of all the CNRA units. Indian Trail offers several miles of trails that connect to a scenic overlook that offers excellent views of the Devil's Racecourse Shoals. The rugged granite palisades were called the Devil's Stairsteps during the 19th century by river boatmen because the shoals "were the devil" to navigate. I can promise you a great hike. We will hike about five miles of the trails in this section of the Chattahoochee River NRA including sections along the river as well as a few steep, rugged areas. We will be hiking at a moderate pace. We'll see the observation deck and the cave if all goes well! And of course, there's the bamboo forest, which should be in their natural green colors - - always an awesome sight, especially for first timers. The following is a link to get annual passes online. https://www.pay.gov/paygov/forms/formInstance.html?agencyFormId=11655368 If you bring your dog, it should be able to keep up with the group and interact well with other dogs and people. The Chattahoochee NRA requires that owners keep their dogs on a leash and clean up after their pets on the trails. A maximum of four dogs will be permitted on this hike, so if you see three dogs signed up, please do not add yours. | |||||||
