When is the last time you were able to paddle flat water without enduring large boats and lake traffic? Probably too long ago! Well, the answer is here my friends, Hollis Q. Latham resevoir in Dawson Forest. The resevoir does not allow gas powered watercraft or swimming, resulting in a very serene and quiet environment. The resevoir is made up of 15 miles of shoreline and is part of the Cherokee County Water and Sewage Authority. I do not know the exact mileage of the paddle, but I average 6.5 miles by doing the area and venturing into a few coves. We'll launch from the boat ramp in the parking lot and explore the lake. We'll paddle actively at a moderate pace as it is flat water. There are a few places on the lake where we can stop and stretch, but will not be taking a long lunch break. There is a $5 parking fee required per vehicle. | |||||

How to Get There: | |||||
Event Directions: | 5375 Cowart Rd Dawsonville, GA 30534Google Maps has a confusing route from the Atlanta area. If you're comfortable with navigating more side streets, they offer 3 different routes.I would suggest the following:
400 N to HWY 369 (1st light as 400 becomes Access controlled,
would be exit 18 if it had a number).
Turn Left on 369 and travel West. Turn right onto Old Federal then
right on Yellow Creek Rd, then right on Shiloh Church Rd. Shiloh Church
Rd turns into Cowart Rd and the resevoir entrance is on the left.
