Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Interested in joining us for a little exploration of the West side of Slaughter Mtn? We will start our hike at Byron Herbert Reece parking area climb right up for about 2 miles and gain around 1350 feet to the top of Blood Mtn.

After our "warm up" we'll descend the other side and hike out to Lake Winfield Scott from where we slingshot around an head back up along Slaughter Creek Trail. The trail traverses the lower portion of Slaughter where we will leave the trail and bushwhack our way to the top of Slaughter Mtn. The steep slops will likely be an interesting challenge (leather gloves to protect your hands might be a good idea). Be prepared to improvise and explore a rarely traveled side of the mountain.

After reaching the top, we will descend on the backside to the Coosa Backcountry Loop Trail which takes us (via the Duncan Ridge Trail) back to Blood Mtn. Following the AT northward, we will return to the Byron Herbert Reece parking area.

On the drive home, we may stop for dinner, so bring a few extra $$.
